Every morning on my way to the university, I spent two hours commuting by metro. During this time, I noticed the silence and lack of interaction among passengers — they were physically close yet emotionally distant. To spark connection, I initiated Runway in Subway, a participatory performance where I invited passengers to share something personal from their pockets or purses. I also offered pieces of fabric for those who wished to write a message.
This act of exchange became a quiet but meaningful dialogue. Passengers left tangible items along with fragments of their stories, values, hopes, and whims. After completing the performance inside the metro, I walked through the streets wearing these contributions, transforming everyday objects into a moving tapestry of shared presence and conversation.
